My warm weather interests range from flats fishing to growing rare tropical fruit trees. Tropical fruit trees are my all consuming passion at the moment and have been for years. But the number one interest that is all consuming for me is growing myrciaria or jaboticaba. I'm constantly looking for new types and am in constant contact with growers living in Brazil where it's indigenous. I have a separate blog section dedicated specifically to myrciaria's/jaboticaba.
Ft. Myers is really a gorgeous city and a great place to live. January is the coolest month of the year although with an average high of about 75 F during the month it can hardly be considered cool. The average low during the month is 54 F which is brisk but still warm enough to grow some fabulous tropical fruit trees. When winter begins to fade and Spring presents itself in March the average high temperature is 80 F. The average low in March is 59 F.
The Downtown Ft. Myers River District is a gorgeous, eclectic place to visit and won the International Making cities Livable Walkable Neighborhoods (IMCL) award at the IMCL conference in Portland, Oregon. This downtown Streetscape project was completed in 2010 after a four year, 54 block replacement and streetscape renovation. Within a couple of years 30 new business have opened with more to come. Here's a few photos I recently took of the new River District renovation.
